redman: this guy is a legend. period. probably the first rapper ever to mix humour into his rhymes and one of my personal favourites. the way he twisted words was way ahead of his time, n0body was doing that sh-t. his influence is crazy. not to mention reggie is eminems favourite rapper…
big boi: often slept on and always overshadowed by the great andre 3000. big boi’s flow is incredible and is not lyrically matched andre. probably the most consistent mc oat, big boi has remained true to the game since 1994, even after outkast’s split. he has even put out two solo projects, one being amazing and the other also being quite solid
prodigy: mobb deep was dissed heavily by 2pac and then jay-z, two of the biggest names in the industry during their respective eras, this was detrimental to their career. p is one of the most prolific storytellers of all time and is often left out of nyc’s finest. when matched with havoc’s gritty beats, the mobb should be #2 on the list of the greatest duos in hip-hop
royce da 5’9″: in my opinion, royce’s music has improved considerably since the start of his career. often overshadowed by eminem’s success, royce is known to been a ghostwriter for dr. dre and diddy. another contender for the list for most consistent mcs. i have never heard a bad verse from him
lupe fiasco: another under appreciated rapper (not on rg). lupe is a very technical and a real wordsmith. his constant use of multi-syllables, double/triple entendres and metaphors is at times unmatched. unfortunately he has had to “dumb” down his music in the past in order to reach out to a wider audience, resulting in a few mediocre projects
