aarow - kid’s table lyrics

Loading...

[verse 1]
it’s funny when you grow up your brain barely notice
i feel the same as the child wild to get noticed
thanksgiving dinner where the kid’s table fold up
close up but still separated from the grown+ups
school snacks baby carrots and some fruit roll+ups
but now my friends roll up and they say they’re gonna roll up
let’s find a vista point to sit and point at buildings
when i was a little boy i used to trip and spill things
now my feelings spill on the page uncontrollably
i write blurred lines between hip hop and poetry
never had an xbox so rap would console me
don’t get it twisted i also love the older me
but you see younger me was so darn innocent
got math homework i still need to finish it
little kid always second tallest in my class
school band percussionist, right behind the brass
quit drums in high school to make room for drama
on a different note, i also started making music
i don’t think my parents thought i’d get so taken to it
a b+ average never was the ace student
always worked hard never once made excuses
introduced to rap listening to i wonder
now everything is drab i just try to write color
but sometimes i just can’t find the right tone
i wish i didn’t type raps on my iphone
prefer to use a paper pad as a canvas
paint my life precise like a strike i can’t miss
i struck out often when used to play little league
thought i would play in high school, ooh silly me

[hook]
remember when i used to eat at the kid’s table
little wobbly little unstable
tall skinny kid, looking like a cable
falling and sh+t like a wooden dreidel
when i used to eat at the kid’s table
little wobbly little unstable
when i used to eat at the kid’s table
little wobbly little unstable
when i used to eat at the kid’s table

[verse 2]
i saw my little cousins this past chanukah
they’d grown a lot since the last bar mitzvah
drove in a van over from vancouver, canada
one was mellow and the other two were amped up
told me on the way down they passed my campus
told them i took the train down and back up
they didn’t really care but that’s okay i can’t judge
i admit didn’t either i was just talking to talk yeah
a couple days later i was with them walking the dog yeah
when the youngest cousin asked if i was supposed to love her
surprised me i mumbled took a second to recover
crazy to think that we barely know each other
i said yeah i guess because our dads are brothers
i mean we’re family but we only meet up annually
my face red as cranberry when i responded candidly
i didn’t know, just gave suggestions like grammarly
crossing the street made sure she had her hand with me
then she changed the subject and i didn’t object
a little too deep for sunday with the cousins

[hook]
remember when i used to eat at the kid’s table
little wobbly little unstable
when i used to eat at the kid’s table
little wobbly little unstable
when i used to eat at the kid’s table
little wobbly little unstable when i used to eat at the kid’s table
