this is what “t plays it cool” sounds like on the record
i was especially interested in sources for this song, it’s a
really popular song, and upset to find that there was little
to go on in the tape and metadata. there was no session
information for backing band material because the backing
band hadn’t actually recorded the track. the backing tracks
were created by cutting and pasting a segment from the film
band sessions to create a loop – a loop – a loop – loop
over this loop, g-ye laid down hand claps, overdubs, and saxophone which trevor lawrence improvises throughout
it’s just a four bar loop that they literally did an old school cut
and paste and made a long sort of jam out of
interestingly, “t plays it cool” is a really popular source for break beat samples. so it’s a loop that has been sampled into a loop
