“we are doomed to be what we are, and dreaming of anything else is futile. but there’s another slightly different notion in there too. the phrase of which the t-tle is obviously a parody is ‘to err is human, to forgive, divine’, and i meant for the second part to be significant by its absence. the basis you [user] are looking at it from is essentially theistic, given that it follows from the existence of divinity, and puts that divinity above humanity. but the t-tle is intended to say that divinity itself is a futile dream which mankind dreams about and for itself. so attempting to emulate it is futile not only because you’re doomed to remain a non-divine being, but also because of the nature of that which you’re trying to emulate.”
