donna gilmore, wife, woman & friend
written by angela brown

spoken word something beyond using imagination. spoken word is an image that says a lot about a spoken word piece. when a spoken word artist performs their form of artistry, a poem becomes more open to an audience to listen to what message is being conveyed in the poetic verse. wife, women and friend is a love poem that tells with conviction the difference of fake love and real love
donna gilmore is a spoken word poet. in her poem, wife, woman and friend, donna captivates the audience with a story line, if love is next to, love can be misunderstood. donna tells a story about her relationship she experienced with a man. with broken speech, donna can tell her story about falling in love with the what she felt was the right man for her. she explains how they started out as friends. how they got close and he started to move in at that point of their relationship. she lets her audience know about her conviction in how she confided trust with this man she loved. she had opened and got acquainted with him where she was ready for a commitment with him
donna tells her personal story by breaking the story down from detail to detail relaying a message to her audience to not make the same mistake she had with her boyfriend. she tells her story using end rhyme capturing words within metrical patterns in her style of storytelling. she talks about how she felt used when he asked for too much from her. she swore he kind of pressured himself to where things were getting too far, and she could not cope with how he treated her. she felt he asked for too much of her and she was not willing to give him 100 per cent of her time. she says he was selfish where he did not want to share his things with her. donna tells her story with conviction when she interacts with her audience through telling jokes. the audience then becomes an emotional part of the performance as they relate to the story told. the climax of the story is when donna can describe the difference between her friend and a husband
donna builds the attention of her audience with an att-tude of expression that is motivating the audience in suspense that leads to the final exposition where she leaves her boyfriend because it did not work out. donna explains to her audience that he wanted to control her, and she was not going to allow that. the poem ended when she decided she had enough and told him to leave. the resolution of the poem is when donna reveals that her idea of having a friend, wanting a relationship seemed different than having a husband. at the end tells the audience what they want to hear. the open relationship of being friends is different than a relationship with having a husband that is committed
