austin stambaugh - final delivery lyrics

Loading...

one friday in the stockyard john’s left arm was aching him so
he was pale as primer when he told his boss that he’d go
make a final delivery and earn his last hours pay
though he never much cared for all the money that he made
so his mac truck was piled heavy
with a twenty+two ton load
and at sixty miles an hour
he drank coffee as he drove

and his vision grew blurry for the buzzing in his ears
until towards the left lane his steering wheel slowly veered
into three+thirty traffic where a long line of cars ran beside
a brand new sidewalk and a city limits sign
and john saw he was slipping
and an opening on his right
so he turned his wheel
in the ditch along the roadside

and the sum of his possessions, every working dollar that he saved
left a lover behind him and a step son he proudly raised
but neither john nor his woman, they never got the papers signed
so his last will was forgotten to his estranged ex+wife
and i cry for his memory
but i’ve found something good to say
when his one life was taken
twenty or more lives were saved
