bearded legend - immigrant (da italia) lyrics

Loading...

in search of change, to america they came
as they stroll off of the boat, they know that nothing is the same
people gave them dirty looks, as if they ain’t humans too
all the courage that it took, see emotions bleeding through
put a gun into their hands, tell them “fight for uncle sam,”
they ain’t treated equally, but they are free to die in bands
don’t understand the language, so you view them as dangerous
put innocents in cages, made sure they never madе it, testing patience

sincе this country was born, all the rich k!ll the poor (e sono stanco)
in their countries before, all the rich k!lled the poor (e ho un sogno)

here’s a little known fact
italian immigrants got lynched ‘cause “they mixed with the blacks,”
know that down in new orleans, 1891, it was march 14th
eleven men were beaten, some stripped and hung by demons
bludgeoned and shot, left bleeding
then left to rot, stopped breathing
you see, back then they would say
we’re not white, like shades of gray
but as time went on, sh+t changed
kissed their ass to pave our way
but there’s more to this story
no background’s worth ignoring
there’s people still enduring the discriminatory bullsh+t
since this country was born, all the rich k!ll the poor (e sono stanco)
in their countries before, all the rich k!lled the poor (e ho un sogno)

this country was built from death and suffering. the land was taken from the natives, africans were made slaves to build it from the ground up, poor groups from around the world came here for a new life only to meet similar oppression and poverty that they tried to escape. even now, in the modern day, people are still searching for equal rights and treatment. it’s up to us to cut the bullsh+t and make things better. make sure that all the people who suffered and died through this country’s history did not do so in vain
