kilbarrack, donaghmede, tallaght, wherever
and all, all the people that were left in ballymun
were people that didn’t really have jobs
or were single parents
and there was actually a lot of
institu+ mental health institutes
that were kinda shutting down and people were then being
accommodated in ballymun, hmm so over+over time then what happened was
ballymun had a huge amount of trauma in the area, yeah
then obviously drug dealers
probably you know didn’t realise it at the time
but when heroin hit the country
you know it became a very lucrative area
to sell drugs because people with trauma
use drugs to overcome, yeah the psychological pain yeah
and that’s what happened
and so+so essentially ballymun was ghettoized
by the government
