dan squire - you don't know you're beautiful lyrics
well you light up my world like n0body else
you’re the s-xiest girl in the town
but if you thought this was going to be a one direction song
well i’m sorry to let you down
well you’re beautiful and you don’t need to hear that from harry styles
it’s obvious to all the world
but you’ve got cl-ss and you’ve got style, there’s a beauty in your smile
and i want to compliment the way you look, girl…
with a perfect figure, curves in all the right places
when you walk down the street all the guys turn their faces
you’ve got long flowing hair, natural colour to the roots
tell me your secret, what conditioner do you use?
now i should probably be more specific maybe
it’s not fair to sing a song to you about a generic lady
and just spout plat-tudes and compliments about features you don’t have
you’re a man, you don’t have b00bs; you have pecs and abs (probably)
so i’ll try and convert my song to be a little bit more manly, so you can feel like it’s more about you
but the all the subliminal messages that pop songs send out to women, i’ll try to make sure that they still get through
and in the spirit of masculinity, i felt that being subtle would be inherently wrong
so i’ll be blunt, i’ll be honest, and i promise i won’t put any more subtext into this song
take your shirt off, let the ladies have a smile
you’re a s-xy guy why don’t you show it once in a while
if anything it’s empowering to stand on stage naked
didn’t anybody tell you that’s the only way you’ll ever make it?
i’m sorry, i really didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable
this song was written hoping there’d be a really fit girl in the front row
and she’d put her hand up, i’d sing my song, it would be really romantic
but unfortunately you were just too keen when you put your hand up
now it would look unprofessional to stop being a musician
i have to fill more time before the judge’s decision
so you just stand there on the stage and stay still
if i think of something i’ll come back to you i promise i will
in the meantime i’m just gonna sing to the audience
and smile and pretend i haven’t noticed the awkwardness
he’s regretting volunteering now, but he’s scared of budging
he’s just standing there where you can all just silently judge him
now all the men tonight should probably take heed of this example
because the content of our popular music can sometimes be harmful
when i say those things to a bloke we can all laugh because it’s funny
if i sang this song about a woman i’d probably make loads of money
how does it feel to be so publicly exposed?
just thank your lucky stars i didn’t actually make you take off your clothes
and this just shows a part of a problem that this song can’t rectify
at least now you know how it feels… to be objectified
