djay kennedy - behind the mic: taylor bennett lyrics

Loading...

originally, i reached out to taylor bennett in the beginning of the summer but our plans fell through. so, when his manager, joseph cabey, hit me up about coming in for a listening session of his new alb-m “broad shoulders”, i was ecstatic. i decided to bring my close friend and co-founder of my company, mindset music, as well as another close friend and designer. we took an uber from the west loop to the studio in humboldt park. the name of the studio is “upnorth”, ran by producer “ludlow” who also produced the entire alb-m

ludlow, a down to earth guy who resembles mac miller not only in appearance but personality as well. in the room over, happened to be chicago legend mc juice who ludlow informed us spent the previous night in his vocal booth, no big deal. after talking to ludlow for about 10 minutes, taylor and joseph arrived. both were very welcoming and evidently excited to see us. taylor is immediately singing a song to himself and then proceeds to jump right into business. taylor proceeded to ask some questions about g*nius and talks about how much he’s witnessed the site grow since he first got verified. i then asked him what chance thinks about the site, especially because i’ve seen chance show frustration with us on twitter and is frequently editing users annotations. taylor told me chance is a big fan of the site, which is re-ssuring to hear

we then start the project, it hooks me after the first note. soon, joseph leans over and informs me that the project was all recorded at upnorth but was mastered at another studio called “wall 2 wall”, located downtown. the mastering by paul wierdak and ludlow was extremely professional and radiates warm vibes throughout the project. every song on the project is great and i can honestly say it blew away my expectations. the project is full of collaboration, with donnie trumpet, king louie, joey purp, jordan bratton, max and the long-awaited collaboration with his older brother, chance. when the very last song came on, joseph told us that it was recorded 4 months previous to the date of us listening (10-17-15). by this time, chance is on the family matters tour and a father. even though the lyrics were recorded 4 months prior, you could interpret them as if they had just been written

we finished listening to the project and then joseph asked us our thoughts and we explained how much we loved it. to our surprise joseph even showed us some unreleased tracks not from the project as well, also very good. we then concluded the listening session and planned some big plans for the future, which i’m excited to execute. overall, this alb-m is going to be one of the most diverse and memorable projects of the year and is definitely something to look out for in november along with a video that you won’t want to miss
