racism
what’s the difference in the colour of our skin?
we all the same inside aren’t we?
yeah, well, when, danny came to see me he flooding my whole room
i didn’t know what had happened, i couldn’t even presume
the kid was 7 years old, had he fallen over or been controlled?
i asked him what was wrong but he wouldn’t unfold
his tears kept flowing while i tried to behold
was he being bullied, beaten or hurt?
if he was then i couldn’t tell by his shirt cause after you’ve been given a good kicking
there’s normally blood and sweat sticking, pr-cking
no, this wasn’t physical, this wasn’t material, it was something else, something bacterial
something that made him not want to eat his cereal
it was hardly cereal now, more a puddle of tears
i was waiting; he was waiting till a cornflake reappears
but nothing came up, nothing showed
i tried to get him to school, to get on the road
but he refused to move, he was stuck on his seat
fists clenched, trying to be discrete
trying to hide the fact that he so obviously wanted to delete
that one person who made him feel like this, the one that made him cry
i was going to ask him why but i didn’t get to try as he exploded
words coming out his mouth as if he had just decoded
the language to speak, the thing he could use
the use of communication that he wanted to lose
he screamed ‘i hate the world and everyone in it
no one cares and everyones already commit
to being a bunch of mean b-st-rds who will never understsand
how it is to feel banned from your motherland’
i said danny woah calm down, and i turned him around
i looked in his eyes and saw all the lies
all the hate and all the threats, every piece of information that he would never forget
the boy had been racially abused, bullied until bruised
but he had no marks on his skin, no punches or scars
cause what racism does is worse than falling over your handlebars
it scars you for life, makes you feel like your dirty
as if everyone else is st-rdy, and your a little birdie
who can’t leave the nest, who can’t even fly
he saw his brothers make the leap, and he saw them die
thats what danny felt like, cause his skin was black
all the local kids had even drawn up a plaque
‘no n-ggers’ it read, all the words in red
as if the blood from all the blacks
had been taken but left tracks
they wanted him gone, he hadn’t done a thing
he was 7 years old and all he had was a piece of string
cause his dad was working nights, late shifts at the head
the local pub which made him hate his life instead
as he too was racially abused, the people just accused and accused
all the wrongs of the world on the people who were black
even though they themselves were dealing crack
and getting cheap money, unlawful but funny
or so they thought until their uncle got caught with the money
the thousands of pounds that white family had
even with that, the dealers still go mad
cause they haven’t endured, they haven’t felt pain
they haven’t travelled thousands of miles to try and start all over again
money came easy, inheritances were huge
but it was the black slaves, who would pick all the fruit
and do all the labour which made the white men rich
it was the slaves who had a civilisation built on their backs
without them we wouldn’t have been able to relax
so don’t be racist, don’t single them out cause of their skin
they’re the same as you, but from them we begin
our relationship has been improving but the amount of racism is still bemusing
so encourage your peers to treat everyone equally
become friends with the foreigners so there is no secrecy
we’re all the same deep down inside, all made from the same bones, flesh and things that keep us alive
soc when you meet an asian, an african or a latina
treat them the well, say ‘hey, signorina!’ (yes that was italian)
we’re all of the same race, that i guarantee
for some reason though some may disagree
however you know whats right and wrong
so next time you see one, invite them to hit bong?
