ghostwolf - overlord lyrics

the beaches of normandy are the stage for this epic clash
1943 decision made to invade at last
open up a second front long awaited by the russians
who push from the east already trap the germans the discussion
the names of the beaches which will ring throughout nations
utah, omaha, juno, gold, and sword the destinations
across the english channel treacherous and unforgiving
the beaches must be captured what they face stiff resistance
defensive positions held on ridges overlooking
each landing sight mg 34s do the shooting
death on a scale to turn the water blood red
awaits the ally invaders facing death
5, 000 vessels 160, 000 men
lead the -ssault to take the beaches then push in
through northern france liberating all of them
the germans retreat steadily towards berlin

june 6th 1944 is the day
the germans feel the pinch from the east and west they’ll say
this is the true beginning of the end you see
victory across the channel to beat germany

hitler put rommel in charge up north
of building fortifications the atlantic wall
they had disagreements on where the attack would occur
hitler believed not normandy but further up
the coast so they focused most their efforts up their
and left normandy sp-rs-ly defended unaware
that this was the place yes indeed of their plight
this oversight would be costly in this fight
deception by the allies had also played a role believe
operation bodyguard staged a ghost army
further convinced the germans that this indeed
the focal point of the -ssault the siege
in southern britain the true invading force am-ssed
awaiting the day where they ride to clash
with the opposing forces not knowing if they’ll last
to make it back home after the war has p-ssed

june 6th 1944 is the day
the germans feel the pinch from the east and west they’ll say
this is the true beginning of the end you see
victory across the channel to beat germany

a storm sets in the invasion still proceeds
the skies darken foreshadowing what some will see
the waves crash on the ships swaying back and forth
the vast armada tries to stay on their path their course
the men inside are unsure what awaits ahead
determination in their hearts but fear in their heads
gripping their weapons so tight that their hands shake
sweat forms on their brows just what h-ll awaits

the germans on the beaches unaware of pending doom
manning their positions halfheartedly with no clue
that 5, 000 ships are set to break the horizon
the enemy approaches in the mist tensions rising
rommel left his post for a family engagement
sure in his heart that the attack wasn’t staging
but he was wrong and now the allies approach
spotted in the distance finally the germans man their forts

on every beach the ships they appear
off in the distance panic sets in with fear
the germans start to scramble to their weapons their positions
communication down the line from utah to sword
the allies start to pile into every landing ship
the germans open fire in the distance hit or miss
the ships break the waves headed towards obstacles
that prevent them from landing directly on the beach no

the landing hatches open the soldiers running out
bullets strafing by some hit flesh some leave no doubt
utah gold and sword light resistance was felt
those beaches taken easily relatively went well
but juno for canada wasn’t going so smooth
bullets make a curtain on the beaches to break through
the infantry was ahead of the supporting ships
suffering many casualties as they disembarked so quick

at omaha 29th and 1st infantry
faced the three hundred fifty second of germany
the most contested beach of the invasion so far
was left to america to suffer greatly by far
more casualties here than the other beaches combined
once the troops left their higgins boats the bullets did fly
some killed in the water never made it ash-r-
into the jaws of death and the screams that unfold

the cliffs above perfect for the germans to kill
inflicting lots and lots of damage on the soldiers it real
obstructed landings delayed vehicles and men
they had to halt the landings to wait for destroyers to clear
a path through the chaos providing cover for them
only 600 men reached the higher ground the next day
through the five entrenched gullies and start to clear the way
so the vehicles could secure a beachhead that’s safe

its d day the day they fade
at the other landing sites the beaches quickly shape
at utah the 4th pushed 4 miles deep some way
only losing 200 men they broke through to take
and meet up with the airborne fleet in the french hedgerow
paratroopers were scattered so it was difficult
despite delays they captured key points the flank
they would protect without stopping to think

at gold high winds and le hamel strong point
75 mm gun made the advance a tough one
rhr took arromanches which would be the site
of an artificial port named mulberry alright
9, 000 tons of equipment move from there a day
a huge advantage for the allies they’d say
juno finally secured canada created two exits
juno and gold beachheads met 12 miles wide they set

it’s d-day the day they fade
the germans fall back to the hedgerow wait
to ambush their the allies aware
of the tough task ahead but they fight don’t care
more men are flooding in on the beaches secured
they move to liberate france the germans destined to lose
the n-z-s now being pinched from two sides its true
hitler retreats to his bunker in denial a fool

its d day the day they fade
the germans fall back to germany soon they’ll say
that this was the final blow to their fate
the river rhine make stand but it’s all in vein
german cities being bombed a fire storm to break
the will of the people but no surrender would shape
time is now running out on the feared 3rd reich
two fronts closing in with berlin in their sites

it’s d day!
