grewsum & j-dogg - hayride lyrics

[verse 1: j+dogg]
out past the edge of town way back in the styx
at the bottom of a valley where the fog is thick
you’ll find an old farmhouse that looks abandoned
and a patch full of pumpkins with scarecrows standing
overseeing acres approaching decay
as frost settles like a blanket on the ground each day
but in the afternoon the patch stirs to life as the town+folk and tourists begin to arrive
greeted by a man left withered with age
like an old musty woof with the dog he had paged
he’s been here for years but most never suspected that this lonely old man would ever be connected
to the disappearances, parents left furious
local cops stumped, the community curious
n0body imagined they’d all met their demise
when they came to test their fate on that old hayride
it’s all word of mouth, all these rumors of murder
on a terror ride the likes of which you ain’t ever heard of
an urban legend brought to life on halloween night
where foolish naysayers go out seeking a fright
what they find when they enter is an old john deere that rumbles to life as they all draw near
with hearts racing ignoring their fear, they all climb up on the rack and it kicks in gear
as they wind through the woods, the path twisted and long
they looked ahead and realized the driver is gone
and as they search around and panic wondering what to expect next
a sickle blade descends on their best friends bent neck
in a matter of seconds the only one breathing is that lonely old man
bloodied up chest heaving
but as he prepares for this year it never occurred
that last harvest was his last chance to feed that urge
[chorus: j+dogg & grewsum]
down an old dark dusty road where the scarecrows sway
there’s a ride you don’t wanna find, you’re best to stay away
down a winding and twisting path you’re gon’ meet your fate
’cause every soul on this ole hayride never leaves the same

[verse 2: grewsum]
almost a year since the old man went nuts
bodies rotted in the ground from his sick stunt
the community is still feeling the loss
and have canceled halloween to try to ignore the thoughts of their non+missing loved ones and the mysteries it caused
the lack of any answers and the crime they never solved
for eleven long months left in the hands of the law
and the families are now convinced they ain’t done sh+t at all
now they’re having secret meetings
probably investigating, researching online about crime and their minds are racing
soon enough it’s obvious, they lost ’em at the same time
and all of them had mentioned maybe going on a hay ride
locally there’s only one that’s close that seems to be an option
everyone gets worried when it hits ’em and n0body’s talking
the old man, the rumors, the room fills with hatred
if they wanna get revenge now they gotta get creative
they families start to plan knowing that they can do it themselves, but they gotta k!ll the old man
it’s the only way to make sure it never happens again
to anybody else, they research and they land
on the marketplace, had someone making a claim that they have a tool to easily reanimate remains
it was hard to digest, morbid and grotesque
a book with a face bound in human flesh
they pulled together the cost, bought it and it arrived
the day before the anniversary of when they died
they gather the next night, found the passage they needed
sat in a large circle and they proceeded to read it
outside of town at the exact same time, the old man from the hayride was making his way outside
bottle of warm whiskey, he headed down to the spot
where the bodies he had buried the year before lay to rot
he took a swig from the bottle, smiled and closed his eyes
as he reminisced on the ride and the sounds they made as they died
such a feeling of pride
so lost in it and consumed, he didn’t notice the dirt on the graves that started to move, huh
