illogic & blockhead - piece of peace lyrics

[verse]
see he wasn’t the smartest or the fastest or the strongest
but he taught hisself to turn every weakness into a strength
with all the violence in the streets, the loudest piece of peace was silence that he keeps close
realizing that tomorrow’s what he needs most
but yesterday remains the focus
mother wasn’t there for him
father was an absentee ballot never counted so
he elected to reject the status quo and achieve a life of balance
every now and then he puffed a chalice
just to clear his mind a little and be high a little on the low
here and there he’d snort a little blow to erase the sin of his mother’s perfume and the visions of the many men going in and out his mother’s room
hearing them in and out his mother’s womb, screams of p-ssion scars a soul
basically on his own since nine years old
so insanity was touch and go but his vanity was blossoming
and as a lethal combination, living by your observations but
he was confident that he could conquer it
diligent with plugging every hole in his sinking ship
pressing towards the goal of relinquishing the hold of sorrow
believing it will be better tomorrow
if he could reach the sandy sh0r- and lounge in his beach chair
the sun would offer him rewards profound when he reached there
scared no more though the waves crashed and the thunder haunted him
he was more concerned with the consequence of not being free
this caged bird had a song to sing but he was still tryna finish it and learn the words to it before his plight diminishes and his flight’s descension is imminent
he struggled just to work through it, [?] the perfect medicine
still tryna escape yesterday, but tomorrow wouldn’t let him in the door with the same rhetoric spilling out of his pores as before
mother and father weren’t to be blamed no more
so he endured, carried his own baggage as far as he could ‘cause he just couldn’t hide behind the shame no more
the game was over, he was older, late 20s, with the mental defects of a soldier in the deep trenches of war
angel on his left shoulder, demons in his knapsack
mother in his mind’s frame, father in his flask
actually wasn’t first and he wouldn’t be the last casualty
working on a future to erase a past, see
he wasn’t the smartest or the fastest or the strongest
but his journey of self-discovery seemed to take the longest
and the hardest part was still to come, he knew he wasn’t done
especially when his lady friend said she’s carrying his son
a generational curse waiting to happen unless he learned from the mistakes his parents made, this made him uneasy
obviously never trained to be a captain
frightened of the care that he’s capable of giving to his seedling
mirror image, cracked reflection, filling up his flask, rejection
was a lesson he was taught, protection of his [?]
suddenly, had to p-ss his past with flying colors
so he entered cl-ss with a name tag that read, “love me”
but he knew he had to capture the sun for his son and hand it down
no more stranded in his father’s hand-me-downs and shattered smiles
couldn’t see tomorrow so he walked by faith
navigating the mind [?] was a chance he had to take
days turned to months, months turned to weeks in his eyes
he was the horizon, waiting for his son to rise
then the day arrived with the first time he felt joy
no chains of the past when he finally held his little boy
then he felt the sand between his toes, body was relaxed
finally sat down in his beach chair with his son in his lap
no longer chained but still had a song to sing
it was finished and memorized, he had his piece of peace

[sample]
what kind of a peace do i mean and what kind of a peace do we see? not a pacts americana, enforced on the world by american weapons of war, not the peace of the grave or the security of the slave, i am talking about genuine peace, the kind of peace that makes life on earth worth living and the kind that enables men and nations to grow and to hope and build a better life for their children, not merely peace for americans, but peace for all men and women, not merely peace in our time, but peace in all time
