james bogucheski - the dark order of the saints ch 4 god? why? lyrics
later on, although b-mmed because of the rejection of his ideals, clark decided that he was going to see this task through. “he just doesn’t understand the power of god. i’ve got to show him it works.” he muttered on his way back to the dorm. he headed out to the church to talk to pastor mark and tell him what happened. those empty church halls weren’t used to seeing him there during the week and the echoes of the temple were reverberating more than usual
“pastor mark i know you aren’t used to seeing me here during the week, but i think i’ve just encountered the perfect opportunity to prove once and for all the holy power of god! you see, my anatomy teacher at the university professor james, read an essay i handed in that talked about using christian science to heal the sick and weary, he mocked it to no end. said that it didn’t work, and it was all just an act. i know it’s true pastor, i’ve seen these people get healed myself. i believe in the power of god. he said that if you go there to the hospital ward and heal an actually sick person, that he would help me write my phd thesis on christian science for healing. the holy movement will gain more popularity than ever before and we’ll see mult-tudes of faithfuls for sure! can we go there to the hospital and heal someone?” clark was what you call a believer
“you wrote your essay at the university and it talked about using christian science to heal the sick? that’s wonderful clark! wow! i knew you had it in you. you were made to testify of the glorious works and miracles of our god. of course we can go and heal the sick clark. that’s what jesus would have done. you’re right we’re going to see so many more faithfuls at the holy movement. maybe this is why this happened, so we could bring your professor and many more to the enlightenment that jesus saves.”
he promptly agreed with going to the hospital where professor james worked at and take up the challenge to heal one of the sick in the ward. they both really believed in the scriptures and the power of god. no one could stop them. they were going to change the world that day. everyone was going to witness the great miracles of god and from then on all the adversity they were facing from the head of the catholic church and the universities would vanish. they’d be faced with overwhelming support and tour the world talking about their great miraculous deeds, showcasing tons of miraculous deeds done on the faithful
they walked in the hospital, this time it was the military hospital or the ospedale militare, on the via venezia, where he regularly tented to the care of the military. some of these patients had been shot during combat, or badly injured, they asked for what room professor james was in, and he was in the operating room 5. they walked in and clark promptly told him they were ready for the challenge
“we’re here professor james, this is pastor mark, the leader of the holy movement. he’s got real supernatural power and we’re going to heal your patients today.” clark had a smile on his face
“pastor mark eh? okay… this young man has the belief that you’re able to save lives with supernatural healing. i’ve told him he not only gets an 100 on his paper if it’s true, but that i’ll personally help him write his thesis on christian science. alright. this over here is a patient named mario de la piazza, he was shot during combat on his right arm. i’ve already removed the bullet and sterilized the wound. all we have to do at this point is close the wound, which i was about to do, but by all means please pray over this patient to heal his wound.”
the pastor had a shine in his eyes. finally they were going to see the power of god in action. he also was very genuine about his belief in god. to him he was only facing adversity from the other ministries and their leaders because of a political and monetary reason, but finally professor james was going to help them launch their ministry up to the high heavens. this was a golden opportunity
“yes of course thank you professor james. ahem, father lord we gather here today to ask you to heal mario lord. he was shot in combat and has an open would on his right arm. come with your supernatural power and heal his wound. the bullet is already removed, all there’s left to do is close the wound. i’m sure you can do it lord. we’re sure. we’ve seen your miraculous deeds, we know you have power to do this lord. close his wound right now lord. show the world that only you are the lord of healing. the god of cures. close the wound right now lord. in the name of jesus. amen.”
they opened their eyes and there it was. the open wound. bleeding. the patient, who was also catholic and believed in jesus as well, did not believe that it didn’t work. why didn’t it work? “i thought the name of jesus had power.” said the professor with a skeptic look in his eyes. “this is why clark. it’s not because i don’t like jesus, it’s not because the university doesn’t believe in god, or doesn’t like christians… we fully endorse the moral aspects of the stories of the bible, but for a practical use, we have to rely on medicine to heal the sick. it just doesn’t work. sorry.” he looked down to the floor while saying “sorry” as if he was delivering the bad news that a patient had just died. really it was like at that moment, someone’s faith had died
“it’s not true! pray more pastor! pray louder!” clark insisted
“father god heal this man in the name of jesus! in the name of jesus father! heal him! heal him right now lord. for your praise lord. for your glory!”
still nothing happened. there was an awkward silence in the room, with a few gasps in between a few hopeless looks in between each gasp
“sorry gentlemen. this isn’t how it’s done. that’s why you’re studying medicine clark. there are no shortcuts in life. life is hard. it’s not impossible. it’s just hard. this is christian mercy clark. we heal the sick with the tools we have available to us because it’s what jesus would have done with the supernatural power that only he had, and we don’t.”
clark and pastor mark left without saying another word. they didn’t understand why it didn’t work. they had one hundred percent surety that it was going to work and they were going to give god all the glory, honor, and praise. they didn’t even talk to each other on the way back. dead silence
professor james was left in the hospital room st-tching up the wound on mario’s arm. “there you go. all better.” mario thanked the doctor and left the hospital room with his wound healed
