jay bizzze - sam's remorse (commentary) lyrics

[jay bizzze]
wow, it’s still surreal to say that this is the last track on my debut studio album, young samson. and although sam’s remorse is the last track on the standard version of young samson, it was actually the first song i wrote for this album

uh, loosely based on the events in judges 16 verses 22 through 31, this sorrowful album closer sees me at rock bottom and emotionally tormented by my sin. uh, and just as samson’s pride, l+st, and disobedience resulted in being physically blinded and taken captive by the philistines, so does my struggle with l+st leave me in the dark and enslavеd to the evil desirеs of my flesh

sam’s remorse is a heartfelt track, with an easy+to+remember hook, and i begin verse 1 penning my frustration with my l+stful desires, so poetically that one might think i’m addressing a toxic ex. i’m overwhelmed by the weight of my sin and underwhelmed with its results

and it’s at this defining point of the album that i begin to turn my eyes back to jesus, and just as samson’s hair is shaved and immediately begins to grow again in judges 16 verses 18 through 22, my pride and l+st are stripped away, and my strength is renewed in the lord, which leads me to say: “but trust me this is not the end/if i turn my eyes to you/i’m gon’ find my strength again.”

and then we get to the last verse on the album, which i believe is the most encouraging verse on the album, where i repent of my sins, turn away from my sins, and turn back to god. and that’s the ultimate lesson i pray you and everyone who hears this album will remember. if there’s a sin that you’re struggling with, and it feels like you can’t overcome it, i want to remind you that because of the finished work of jesus christ on the cross, and his resurrection over sin, death, h+ll, and the grave, that he has already overcome the world, just as said in john 16:33. and because jesus has already overcome the world, he tells us that those who put their hope, faith, and trust in him, will overcome as well, because the same holy spirit that lives in god and raised him from the dead, also lives in us. so because jesus has overcome sin, we can and we will overcome sin. and this, my beloved brothers and sisters, is. good. news

and so i want to end with this one last point. although samson made terrible decisions in his life, god still used him to carry out his divine plans. and i find it interesting that the only other book in the bible that mentions samson, is the book of hebrews, and it’s in chapter 11, which we commonly refer to as the hall of faith. so we see a man who was of great weakness being mentioned alongside the all+time greats in the bible, like abraham, isaac, jacob, joseph, moses, and countless others. and so i want to say to that, that if god can use samson, you can certainly trust that he can use you. don’t give up. just because you sinned, doesn’t mean it’s over, repent and break the cycle of sin
i love y’all so much, god bless y’all, peace
