joshua quimby - the big catch lyrics

Loading...

[verse 1]
well, richard the fisherman
he hailed from ol’ rhode island
built him a skiff at nineteen
christened it “caroline”
he sunk his hook and flung his line
brought local cod to their knees

[verse 2]
he sailed his ol’ fishing ship
on through the atlantic
made him enough to get by
and after a long day’s work
richard would read his book
guzzle his beer and retire

[verse 3]
now, richard was a lonely man
he had no lover, had no friends
leaned on himself and the sea
just a blue+collared navy man
richard had no one, and
his heart cried out to be free

[verse 4]
well, out by the docks one morn
richard was a+walkin’ toward
ol’ caroline at the pier
when then, with his own two eyes
just ‘fore the sun did rise
saw him a woman laid near
[verse 5]
“are you alright, my dear?”
the fisherman called in fear
thinking the lady was dead
upon hearing his words, she stood
walked right to where he was
and planted a kiss on his head

[verse 6]
the two of them lived a life
peacefully, without strife
down in the rhode island bay
and many years down the line
richard had on his mind
what a big catch he had made
