jq sirls - glamour lyrics

Loading...

[m. sirls]
the other day at the mall
i watched the prettiest little girl
she appeared to be window-shopping with her mother
she grinned as she looked through
the windows of the clothing
but her biggest smile occurred when she
saw herself more clearly through the window
of a vacant clothing store
and for those few seconds
that empty store had a little more value
than any other store in the mall

it was then that when i found out
she had to interest in retail
turns out she was just intrigued
by the flawlessness in her reflection
and she smiled

as she flung her immaculate hair
cut in a perfect chili-bowl
and she was gorgeous
just as tall and skinny as she could be
and she
gives her thoughts enough time to be complete
before she releases them
and her speech slurs when she declares her wisdom

“i’m beautiful,” she says
as she smiled at me
and i couldn’t have agreed more
some may describe autism
as a psychological disturbance
where thoughts, speech, and interaction
with the world follow unusual patterns

after that day at the mall
i’ve never been so uninterested
in our usual patterns
and i started to disrobe

not for indecent exposure
this little girl has to know
that being in love with her mind, body, and soul
in spite of her usual surroundings
does not mean she’s psychologically disturbed
every customer in this building had to know
that god already created you
fearfully and wonderfully and
retail couldn’t make you any more beautiful
than what you allowed yourself to be

i had to remove the fabric
that often covers the god-given glamour
in our dna
and i stopped shopping
because i saw the prettiest little autistic girl today
and she taught me that any glamour with a price tag
is overrated
but i do wish they sold her mind in american apparel
