june henry - the stonehouse lyrics

Loading...

i still got that picture of you on the wall
from the night we broke into the stonehouse
you parked amidst the tall prairie grass and prayed we wouldn’t step on snakes in the dark
we surveyed the perimeter
everything was all boarded up save for a second story window
i loosened the bolts on the plastic rain cover above the bas+m+nt
the boards blocking our path weren’t so much more than lichen and splinters
and i kicked away what was left of it with the boots you gave me
you went in first, lit cigarette in mouth
you slipped through the narrow frame and your shirt got caught in the corner of the boards
ripped a little
my entrance was just as graceful
there we were then, in the stonehouse

we walked around with our flashlights until we found a half+there staircase up to the second floor
our ascension led us to the window
not boarded up
no glass or anything
we looked out and saw so many stars over the prairie

i don’t know why that wasn’t enough to make you fall in love with me
i think anyone could’ve fallen in love with anyone in that moment:
dust+covered
accomplished
viewing something so simple and so beautiful
maybe you just don’t have it in you to love me
we’ve been wrestling in the dead leaves in december
kissing in the rain
it seems like i can harvest around a trillion picturesque memories
but they still wouldn’t do it for you
