mason zgoda - where else can i go? lyrics

Loading...

i was raised in north carolina
there my parents grew me right
they taught me about the bible
and i sat with them on summer nights

i had friends and loves and heartbreaks
all the ladies called me ”hon”
a man offered to marry me
and i believed he was the one

then that man i loved left me
my best friend got married

so i moved to california
where i could see a setting sun
california is so lovely
oh, yellow golden light
you will find you’re always happy
as long as you never drive

i went up and down the coast
i saw everything and everywhere
being out in all that sunshine put the red back in my hair

but my friends had their own friends
there’s no place for me
so i up and moved to nashville
and i bought a new guitar

when i lived in music city
i bought a house on the west end
and i filled it up with plants
and a little dog, and i got new friends

they came round on friday evenings
we cooked and laughed, danced and talked
then i learned to play the banjo
wrote a record, and it topped

but i worried about money
writing songs in this economy

so i left and went to boston
got a job, and sold my car
boston is so pretty and full of lots of universities
i was feeling quite inspired, so i got my ph.d
i sat in lots of coffee shops
drank cappuccinos and wrote a book
tried to start my own philosophy of thought
but it never took

oh, the snow stays round well into march
and i want to get back to my art

so i guess i’ll move to europe
they’ve got all the paintings there

you’ll always wear out your welcome
if you stick around long enough
as i say, you should get going
when the going does get rough

you will say i’m running from my problems
and i’ll say, “i know”
that is why i’m always asking:
“where else can i go?”
