[spoken word]
early one morning, the man stepped out of his house with a red door onto his porch paved with red bricks. it was springtime, and his lawn was agreeably colored, in its lush, springtime prime. creeping ivy clung to the white picket fence surrounding the perimeter of his yard. “what appetizing ripeness there is before me,” he thought to himself. a songbird called, and the leaves of the big tree standing on the strip of lawn between the curb and the sidewalk rustled in the breeze. he stood still on his porch, taking in the sights and smells of the suburbs. the sun rose higher in the sky, and the air grew warmer as the morning advanced

after his basking in the warmth for a moment, the man began to stroll. he didn’t know where he was going, or why. his legs seemed to move independently of his mind. it was as if a little man had climbed through his ear, inserted a controller into his brain, and was now moving the joysticks back and forth. he walked in a straight line, passing by row after row of houses just like his + modestly sized, with neatly trimmed yards and complacent paint jobs

just as neighborhood began to turn to city, and color began to fade to grey, and he began to feel the pangs of loneliness in his stomach, the man saw another life form on the sidewalk. it was sitting down, turned away from him, and was tending to a pink and white petaled flower growing in the sidewalk. he drew closer to the figure, and realized it was a girl. her ears perked up as his approaching footsteps became audible to her, and she turned to face him, her back twisting and her palms on the ground, supporting the weight of her body

she stood up, smoothed out her clothes, and introduced herself. she wore a deliberate smile on her face. her hair shone in the sun, and her dress waved around her legs in the wind, revealing quick glimpses of her smooth, milky thigh skin. her face was smooth and round, and her eyes were warm and inviting. “what an alluring creature,” the man thought to himself. he could feel ancient feelings becoming animate deep within, and he struggled to keep his face straight while the girl began to babble about things he could not possibly care less about. he could feel his eyelids beginning to droop, and the corners of his mouth turning downward. the girl prattled on, unaware of the man’s growing exasperation. she had lost control completely

the man couldn’t take it anymore. overcome with torment, he took hold of her by the shoulders, shaking her into a stupor, and dragged her down into an a dark alleyway, marching deeper and deeper into the blackness, with her feeble body slung like a sack of potatoes over his shoulder. his legs were again moving without him telling them to. she pounded her fists uselessly on his back, kicking and screaming and shouting in fright. the man marched on, unbothered by her display. soon, the girl grew quiet and pensive. she hung limply from the man’s shoulder, her arms outstretched, swinging from side to side, her brow furrowed and her mind machinating

suddenly, the man came to a stop. he disengaged the girl from his shoulder, and stood her gently on her feet. she stared at the ground, quiet and dismal. unbothered still, the man leaned over and planted a tender kiss on her forehead, retrieved a diamond ring from the depths of his pocket, and dropped down to one knee. the girl’s hands flew to cover her now open mouth in surprise as the man presented her with his jewel. “will you marry me?” he asked, a lone tear rolling down his cheek. the girl, once again now wearing a smile on her face, pulled his head into her stomach and ruffled his hair

“i thought you’d never ask.”
