mick softley - plains of the buffalo lyrics

Loading...

[verse 1]
come all you, old time cowboys, and listen to my song
please do not grow weary, i’ll not detain you long
concernin’ some wild cowboys who did agree to go
to spend the summer pleasantly on the plains of the buffalo

[verse 2]
found myself in griffin in the year of ’83
when a well+known, famous drover came a+walkin’ up to me
“well, how do you do, young feller, and how would you like to go
and spend the summer pleasantly on the plains of the buffalo?”
[verse 3]
“well, i’ve been out of work,” right then to drover i did say
“goin’ out on the buffalo plains depends upon your pay
and if you pay good wages, transportation to and fro
think i might go with you on the plains of the buffalo”

[verse 4]
why with all his flatter and talkin’ he gathered quite a train
some ten or twelve in number, some able+bodied men
oh, the trip it was a pleasant one as we hit the westward road
until we hit old duggan’s creek down in new mexico

[verse 5]
while there our pleasures ended, and our troubles all began
a lightin’ storm had hit us, made all the cattle run
got all full of stickers from the cactus that did grow
and there were outlaws waitin’ to pick us off from the hills of new mexico

[verse 6]
well now, our journey’s ended, and the drover he did say
“because we lost our cattle you’ll also lose your pay”
but the cowboys had never heard of such a thing as a bankrupt law
and we left that drover’s bones to bleach on the plains of the buffalo
