nathanology - chrysmyth lyrics
jesus: whether you believe he is
the son of god or just a lot of people’s deceiving wish
to live beyond being this — seeing as the season ’tis
it’d not be remiss to give thought to what jesus is
saying that jesus is a myth is not a jesus diss —
jesus did exist — a myth doesn’t mean a fib —
a myth’s a type of meaning that gives speech to our deepest pits
of self — bits objective speech is weakest in dealing with
religious meaning isn’t mutually exclusive —
there are many beats in the music that truth is —
there’s truth to the buddhists, the druids, the jewish kid
newborn with presents. there’s precedents for who he is
some believe christ is derived from dionysus
the freak greek god of vines and deep wine sips —
born of mortal virgin, and from zeus’ divine thigh; this
and in some versions, he dies — eaten by giants
even god dies, for god is inside us
imbibed dionysus, divided osiris
and yet life re+arises, both timely and timeless
fresh from the nothingness, the night from which light slips
— it’s the speeches on god’s lip:
the word, greek, logos — john’s gospel got it
from a neoplatonic philosophical concept:
god is the divine logic; he called christ its embodiment
god can get born and ever gets re+born
a process of chaos graced with the free form
of finitude, from infinites refurbished and fresh
+n+logically referred as the word made flesh
— but that’s complicated. to phrase it the easiest:
this world needs a force that embraces the neediest
and gives them a course and a means for their seizing bliss
regardless what caesar says, whoever the caesar is
and this is the myth that’s the oldest and truest
the source of our faiths, and of our revolutions:
all things pass away — but from them come new ones
god just got born — god is you — it’s a human
it doesn’t need to be a matter of belief
as of the aspects of divinity that history has weaved
in its tapestry, traditions and religions rolling deep
in our consciousness, concepts inwoven like a wreath
so whether you’re atheist or deeply religious
however your savior is conceived or envisaged
let each day be a new birth and a crisp gift —
live your best truth and to you merry christmyth
