i wonder what it’s like just to be
as a child i was often both puzzled and intrigued
by the idea of duality
the ups and the downs
the here and the there
sp+ce and time
right or wrong
good and evil
light and darkness
the laws of nature and the laws of men
the you and the me
us and them
mind and body
life and death
all ideas
simple ideas
that seem to be the building blocks of every theory of life
a duality that can be found in every vеrsion of being
it’s almost like the vеry foundation
that all human knowledge is built on
is in itself split right down the middle
i once met a man who proposed that
even the human soul is made up of two parts
he called them the higher self
and the lower self
he claimed that, whereas the higher self’s motivation
is purity of consciousness
which he said can only be attained by one’s
trying to experience existence itself
as the pursuit of enlightenment
the lower self’s motives are much more primal and animal based
simply put the lower self’s m.o. is to indulge in simple pleasures
and the pursuit of fulfilling physical desires
and so i was taken to a new place
a place where the air was so still
that the void created a sort of turbulence
that made me sick to my stomach
a place where i had to ask myself a strange
almost comical question
if we are all actually made up of both parts
could one be better than the other
are we limiting our own potential
by harbouring this literal division in our core
wouldn’t it maybe be best
if we all just committed to always striving
to only live as one of the selves
just to be
a one hundred percent commitment to one part
being either the higher or the lower self
rather than living in the perpetual conflicts
and tensions of trying to be both
wouldn’t it maybe, be best
just to be
