pinetop seven - at his kitchen table lyrics
he sat at his kitchen table trying to put his thoughts in order
it was becoming harder to do lately
the fruit bowl in front of him caught his attention
he looked at it for a while
he picked up a tangerine and tried to open it
the pale skin on the back of his hands tensed over the knuckles
his arms shook as he pulled and tugged at the skin of the fruit
t++th clenched, face twisted into a frantic mess
he was still unable to open it
exhausted and defeated, he dropped the tangerine back onto the table
he looked at it hard
it seemed to be smiling at him
he reached for his glass, put it to his lips, took an unsteady sip, and placed it back underneath the table
“i’ve finally gotten old,” he thought
a sound outside caught his attention and he looked out the window across the street to where a young mother was yelling
she was yelling at her little boy who had found a dead bird and brought it into the house
