qj of vaudeville - beginner's luck (act 1) lyrics
[beginner’s luck]
[verse]
hold my breath and bite my tongue, just one of those days
where i wake up hating everybody and everything, uh
i start to wonder if this world is here on my behalf
weird cause most times i’m stuck on if i’m a f-cking psychopath
burning off the sanity i might just have, yikes
chilling out with parasites, no more cares, paradise
yeah, it’s nice, it’s only cause of what we have in store today
partying like war parades, really is there more to say
kissing the lips of a bottle of wine, like it’s the love of my life
feeling it bubble inside
get a text from the boys, they say they’re still coming tonight
women and wonderful times
just like the sun we gon’ shine
nightlife, downtown, feeling so bright, so loud
just like a mushroom cloud
burn it right to the ground
pray the lord’ll forgive me for all of my sins in advance
it’s just the beginning, but we’re trying to make the beginning last
yeah, at last
[hook]
now we made it downtown (keep it going, yeah)
i’m guessing it’s beginner’s luck (keep it going, yeah)
you can act like you enjoy it (keep it going, yeah)
and i’ll act like i give a f-ck (x2)
(keep it going, yeah)
beginner’s luck, uh
yeah, beginner’s luck
you can act like you enjoy it, i’ll act like i give a f-ck (x2)
[outro]
downtown (x4)

act 1
there’s a moment in our youth where we as humans utter with the utmost confidence in our own wording, a phrase that reverberates against each generation when reaching the peak of youth. that phrase is “i don’t give a f-ck.” but at some point in our lives, soon after -sserting our dominance, the universe tosses things our way that ultimately forces us to answer a serious question: “do i really give a f-ck?” the only time we can answer this question truthfully is when we’re no longer trying to impress our friends and we’re completely honest with ourselves. and more often than not, the truth is…we truly don’t give a f-ck. depending on the individual, of course. but deep within this young man who’s getting dressed and preparing himself for a night on the town with a group of his closest friends, a part of him does give a f-ck. many. he’s a prost-tute of emotions. and as he prepares to head into the city for a night more wild than he could ever expect, he buries this obscenity, this f-ck, under mountains and mountains of youthful anguish and superficial worldviews and proceeds out of the door with no signs of his possible ownage of such a thing. but something is watching him. an ent-ty invisible to him and the rest of his kind, but very much alive, not symbolically but literally, and it is very interested in this young man’s struggle to keep hidden this treasure trove of emotions for fear of seeming as if he may actually care, if only a little bit. as the night approaches, the ent-ty watches closely as the young man travels with his comrades, completely oblivious to its presence. his intentions are to live the life he has only dreamt of, to help fulfill the fantasy of what he’s been told it means to be alive; a distorted but glamorous image that drives him, as he makes his way across the mythical and magical wonderland that is…downtown
