as we walked the causeway toward angkor wat, it
seemed to hover above the earth
silent, we contemplated this place, what it meant
to those who built it and what it said to us now
later, we climbed to the top level and stood among
shadows of vast lotus towers
our guide described it as a depiction of heaven –
sacred beyond words
for us it will always be so
