shaun martin - madiba monologue lyrics
[monologue: shaun martin]
i remember landing in johannesburg, south africa in december, 2013
not long after i checked into my hotel room, we received word of the former president of south africa, the honorable and majestic nelson mandela, had p-ssed away
now normally, with a dignatarial with such magnitude p-sses away, the city becomes somber
much like when the queen p-ssed away – i just so happened to be in london for that too
but this was no ordinary p-ssing – this was the guy that after being in prison for so many years, came out and went from being prisoner to president
and the very country that jailed him
and the celebration that ensued after his death was breathtaking
and also birthed the melody to this song
i mean, dancing in the streets, singing, praises, flags waving
the people were so proud and the energy was so high
it taught me something
i wanna live such a life that when death comes, people won’t mourn because i died – they’ll celebrate because i lived
here’s to unity, the celebration continues
long live madiba
