steve earle - south nashville blues (acoustic live) lyrics

Loading...

townes van zandt said there’s two kinds of music
there’s the blues and there’s the zip+a+dee+doo+dah
and this ain’t zip+a+dee+doo+dah

went downtown, it was just to ease my pain
went downtown just to ease my pain
i ended up out walkin’ in the rain

i took my pistol and a hundred dollar bill
took my pistol and a hundred dollar bill
had everything i need to get me k!lled

now, the southside girls, they suit me just fine
the southside girls, they suit me just fine
long as i got money, they don’t whine (that’s important)

now, the devil lives on lеwis street, i swear
he lives right down on lеwis street, i swear
i seen him rocking in his rocking chair

i start way up top of lewis street
and i walk down to the end
i start way up top, i walk down to the end
go way down in the bottoms, i come back up again

my mama told me, papa too
they both talked ’til they turned blue
but i got them old south nashville blues again
can’t be satisfied until they lock me up again
thanks
thank you very much
now, that’s a pretty good song, i’m proud of that song, i sing it all over the world and i have for a while now
um, but i did realize almost instantly after i made it up that it contained a nearly fatal flaw
and that is it has a tendency to make that particular part of my life sound like a lot more f+ckin’ fun than it really was, um
especially the bit right at the end there
so what i do, and what i’ve done for the last twenty+eight years last september 13th, so that means it’s almost twenty+nine
what i do to keep from endin’ up back where i started again, um
suggest that whenever i sing that song, it’s probably a good idea if i sing this song because, uh, well, lest i forget, so
welcome to my nightmare
