teen stories - my inner voice saved my life lyrics

[verse 1]
to begin with, i am quite normal in all the other matters. i am an average student, i have ordinary appearance and a normal family. we have lived in the apartment since i was born, it was presented to my dad at work immediately after construction works were completed, so in terms of this, everything is quite ordinary as well, without any surprises. my grandparents are alive, healthy, and extremely vigorous. grandma, dad’s mom, has even married recently, explaining that she had never been a wife and she wanted to catch up in this matter. we had fun then looking at the elderly bride wearing a white dress…
nothing ever happens with people like me, they finish school, get married, have children, and die in their own bed surrounded by their grieving relatives. well, that is how it should be. but that’s not the case
i have a secret, the most real and terrible secret. it could be attributed to schizophrenia or some other disease, but i learned from my own experience that the voice never lies
for the first time, i heard it when i went to the construction site with my friend. we were small kids at that time, about twelve years old. it was interesting for us then, so we decided to try our courage. we were exploring rooms there, looking at the graffiti, it was just terrible. we decided to make a fire on the third floor and tell some stories. we said it and we did it. the good thing was that there were enough rags and boards for this
so, we were sitting and telling horror stories. we have already frightened even ourselves, we were jumping up after hearing any noise. and then, a man with dead eyes and a knife in his hands entered the room. the dude with a knife didn’t seem to follow us, but we got scared pretty much and we never went to the construction site anymore. then one of the guys said that it was a drug addict, he was there on that day, hiding his trophy, and he could really just k!ll anyone for the new sneakers
so now i’m thinking, if it hadn’t been for that voice, i’d be dead at such a young age…and i stopped listening to it. we were in the mountains being engaged in mountaineering, it was the best thing to do for fourteen-year-old guys. i was climbing on the rock with my friend backing me up below, when the voice said, “get down!” i shook my head and continued climbing
and then i felt that the stones under my feet started moving and i lost my support. fortunately, the instructor noticed that in time, grabbed something and pulled it, so that i stayed alive. but i broke both my legs and my head was struck, then a metal plate was inserted into my body in the hospital
sooo. i did not argue with the voice anymore, but there were no extreme situations either. i was about to graduate from school, so i had no time for entertainment
oh yeah, of course. i was taken to the army straight from college. as soon as i turned 18, i was given a draft notice. well, in this case, whether i wanted or not, i had to go, so i quickly wrote an application to take a break from my studies and jumped on the train together with my suitcases, going to serve my homeland
and then, just before the demobbing, my friends and i were sent to another military unit for some kind of household trifle. it was either soap or some ropes, i do not remember this right now. we were there just to carry weights, and the lieutenant was supposed to think instead of us
so we got into the car, in order to go back. and then my old acquaintance said, “do not get in the car!” i thought, “ok, am i supposed to go on foot 40 km through the forest?” and then he repeated, “do not get in the car!” and that’s all. well, i remember that it is dangerous to mess with this voice, so i pretended to be seriously ill. i was taken to the medical unit, and my comrades left. they promised to pick me up the next day
and in the morning, there was the howl throughout the military unit. our car was crashed. there was no car anymore. and there were no p-ssengers. n-body knew what happened there, in that forest, and why that the car was a kilometer away from the road, in some ravine, and to make matters worse, it exploded. but those who knew it, didn’t say a word. and here i am, alive. i looked in the mirror and saw that my head was half gray. and a nurse was looking at me surprisingly
well, i am the first gray-haired 20-year-old guy in the history of my city. thank god, i have never heard the voice anymore, but i do not think that he was gone for good. now, after reading tons of literature, it seemed to me that it was my own inner voice that warned me against danger, but who knows…
