the unfolding - parable lyrics
[verse one]
once there sit two birds on the branches of a tamarind tree…
[verse two]
…one perched on the lower branch
and on the higher one a dazzling bird of paradise…
[verse three]
…the bird on the lower branch hurried to taste the different fruits of the tree. some which were bitter and some which were sweet. becoming happy and now miserable…
[verse four]
but the golden bird on the branch above sat calm and silent, glancing neither to the right nor to the left…
[verse five]
after a while, the bird on the lower branch became disgusted tasting this bitter fruit and that bitter fruit till glancing up once did he see that shining bird who seemed neither miserable nor happy, but immersed in his own majesty…
[verse six]
the lower bird longed to be like him but soon forgot and continued eating the bitter fruit
[verse seven]
till one day, he came so close to the golden bird that he saw the light glowing from his plumage and began to immerse himself in the light…
[verse eight]
as he approached closer and closer his own form seemed to change and even the leaves of the tamarind tree melted away…
[verse nine]
dazzled and awed did he realize the golden bird had always been him!
