well it took me back to my place
when i was just a kid
and the nick knacks on the mantle piece
looked just like my mothers did
i wished i could have stayed a while
but i had to do a show
so i used the phone ans left some money
and i turned around to go
but i couldn’t just go and leave that way
so i scribbled her a note
on an old weet bix pack on the table
and this is what i wrote
i’m sorry i couldn’t wait to meet you
but i had to use your phone
i’m glad that i called in though
cause it took me back to home
back to my happy childhood
and all those things i left behind
but i’d sure like to come back and meet you
and talk with you some time
well a few years have gone by now
since the time that i was here
and the old shack that i phoned from
should have been just over there
but theres nothing there but bushes
and a rusty bit of tin
and an old black cast iron kettle
where the fire place should have been
well i just stood a while and pondered
then i sadly turned away
but in my mind i saw tjhat note
