it’s brand, it’s new, physics rap part two
coming straight back to the scene it’s time for you to get a clue
yeah we’re the best, we’re undefeated, all you others gotta queue
all these other raps in physics, they can’t even lace our shoes
so a scalar is a quantity, common, it’s not an oddity
always, it’s giving more for me, vectors are quite the contrary
a scalar can be measured and has magnitude they usually
have a special unit, all of which are standardised
like distance, how far it is from here to there
there’s always one straight line between two points, i’m sure you’re aware
it’s a fundamental scalar we use metres to measure
and it’s commonly accessible to use at your pleasure

vectors are scalars with added direction

for kelvin it’s at zero, quite intuitively
and for celsius we shift it minus 273
while the negative sign is known to cause some deception
just remember that a temperature cannot have a direction

as a scalar it’s essential, like the bread that you knead
in case you don’t already know, we’re trying to teach you teach you a lesson
the si unit of speed is known as metres per second
if you can’t see it already, you should go to an optician
speed is really just an object’s rate of change in position

you’ve heard of speed, but what about velocity
i want you to heed my words with curiosity
velocity is speed but in one direction
it could be north, south, west or another choice from your selection
forwards with a plus, backwards with a minus
it’s so easy to say, you’re going every which way

next up, it’s mass, measured in kgs
in so many equations, remember mass is the key
it’s at the base of modern physics, like the trove of a treasure
just don’t mix it up with weight; which we use newtons to measure
density’s another scalar we can derive
get a mass and then a volume, now you need to divide
the units are easy, without being too rude
just pluck them out of the equation: kilograms per metre cubed

let’s say you’re moving but you’re going real slow
to use the right lingo your velocity is low
you want to increase it but don’t know how
just accelerate a bit, you’re going faster now!
acceleration’s how fast you’re changing speed + ain’t that sublime
just take the difference in velocity and divide it by the time
it can be positive or negative just like velocity
one makes you faster, the other slow
just look at the symbol and then you’ll know

energy! we’re near the end, you must be overjoyed
but just avoid, saying it can be created or destroyed
only transferred in between two forms, something that you’ll
always keep in your memory, and know its units are joules

so finally momentum wow, we’ve got quite far
and it feels harder to stop with every bar
i’ve accidentally shown you what momentum can do
it’s the force that keeps things going the way they’re headed to
once you’ve got moving it’s harder stop
and changing direction could therefore take quite a lot
momentum is bigger if you’ve got more mass
it’s harder to move a truck than a sea bass
momentum is found by mass times velocity
don’t forget it or you’ll face my full ferocity
momentum can’t be lost, even when you’ve stopped
it’s simply passed on to the things around you
