at the bottom of ogre’s dell a lonely castle stands
very few have gone that far, and returned from the land
they say a loathsome spider lurks within the castle keep
and makes excursions in the night while townsfolk lie asleep
decimated was the village in the dead of night; though they’d sung the vespers well and kept candles alight
the spider’s thirst for blood is strong
its man’s blood that it craves
and few would think to seek it out – be they never so brave
but one morn a warrior came unto that plagued land

his speech was bold
that afternoon ere the sun went down the warrior made his way
to the bottom of ogre’s dell, to the castle – the spider to slay
as he came unto the door he heard a sound within
the spider looked down from the tower wall, its eyes laden with sin
“who art thou that dare intrude?” it spake with rasping tongue
“this is master satan’s realm to which thus far you’ve come”
thereat the ground spewed up a host of semi-human forms:
the souls of deceased d-mned from h-ll were in those shapes reborn
they hemmed the warrior in; gave vent to curse-filled blasphemies; vomited excrement from guts that were far diseased
raising sword with swashing blows, the warrior cut them down
until the earth was littered with their limbs
the spider frowned
then said: “if this has been to no avail, let me come forth
with silken web i’ve woven for you – your fate will be far worse”
then came the spider forth
it hopped down from the turret high, and scuttled cross the turf with malice in its beady eyes
its speed was deathly fast; the warrior acted oh so quick
and sidestepped just in time to avoid the spider’s noxious l!ck
then the fight was in earnest: the spider made a surprise attack
the warrior parried with a blow: the bulbous form he hacked

ichor oozed and black blood sprayed from rent in hideous heart
“take that
” the warrior said
“let evil now depart
as you die upon the earth, take this message to h-ll: your master’s time is running out
i trust he knows it well”
