intro:
yeah, yeah, yeah

verse 1:
i was 15 when i picked up the pad and the pen and i started this
(started this) i’ll never forget where i started at
wrote what i felt and it helped, that’s what started it (for real)
back in ’07, god showed me my calling
and ever since that day i’ve guarded it (guarded it)
i’ll never forget that the pad and the pen
and the spirit of god was my starter kit
10 years ago i was with my cousin
on the porch of my grandmothers house
told him i wanted to rap really bad
but taking that route, i had so many doubts (yeah)
he p-ssed me the pen and the paper
honestly, i didn’t know what to write about
i remember him helping me out
i was sitting in the rocking chair, he was on the couch (yeah)
the next thing i knew the next day
i was up in my room with this p-ssion inside of me (that’s real)
i can not deny what i felt
see the spirit was calling and active inside of me (yeah)
at that very moment, i answered it
started to work, ain’t nobody gonna cancel it
couple weeks later i finished “he died”
that sparked a flame, that’s why the candle’s lit (yeah)
by then it was evident, that i would never quit
but really needed development (for real)
so working nonstop was a definite
every lyric was a testament (yeah)
the spirit revealing the messages
made me realize that this music’s my therapist (my therapist)
i started to spend all my time with it
worked on my craft day and night as i studied the element
lookin’ back to freshman year
i was struggling, trying to face all my fears
dealing with so many things in my life
everyday it was hard for me to persevere
couple months in, i was sitting in gym
had the lyrics on my pad that i penned
i remember meeting steven and letting him read ’em
man, ever since that we’ve been friends (for real)
we started to write ’em together
and met after cl-ss everyday to get better (better)
we promised each other, no matter the pressure
we’ll keep it 100 forever (forever)
through any and every endeavor
we never surrendered or listened to them doubts (nah)
i remember, school was out
it was after finals, i was at his house (yeah, for real)
that’s when we started to mess around with garage band on the mac
recorded our raps with a $10 mic
now looking back, we wasn’t even on track (nah)
we were picking random beats
and started to rap out lyrics we had already wrote
made a cd of it, thought it was dope
that’s when my p-ssion for rap really started to grow
then the next thing i know
i was sitting up in my room, writing down goals
i’ll never forget it
my goal was to get a computer, i needed a mic along with it
(yeah) see, i was 16 with no job
i had to find a different way to get it
i will never forget living up in montgomery village
use to seeing people evicted (that’s real)
then all of sudden it happened
i’m walking home from the bus stop and i p-ssed it
some stuff from evicted apartments was next to the dumpster
that became my tactic (yeah)
one glance and i seen it, nobody around
so i ran to the house and told my mama that’s what i needed
she told me it prolly don’t work, but i begged and i pleaded
(that’s real) she finally said i could get it
so i ran real fast to go grab it (grab it)
took it up to my room, plugged it up
i was in awe that i had it (for real)
it worked when i flipped on the switch
that’s when i knew that this calling was real (real)
every morning i was in the library
researching recording to blossom my sk!ll (yeah)
it wasn’t long after ’till i found a $10 mic, now i had some ideas
determined to set up a studio in my room
but i had no clue on where to begin
that’s when i took a speaker with a couple of strings
and i hung it down from the ceiling
put the mic next to it, that’s how i started recording
i’ll always remember that feeling (yeah)
just messing around
i started free-styling and burned it on to a cd
never intended for it to be seen
but you know jesus had a plan and a different scheme
(for real) it was the start of my junior year
matter fact it was the first day of cl-sses (cl-sses)
i walked through the door of my cl-ss
and mr. garner had the song “jesus freak” blasting
(for real) i’ll never forget it
that’s one of the biggest impacts of my life (yeah)
he played my cd every cl-ss
and he was devoted to help me learn more about christ
(for real) he invited me and steven
to go on a trip to rock city along with his youth
(yeah) that’s when i met this dude
shout out to michael, my a1, my day 1, the main one god used
(that’s real) now jump to my senior year
that’s when i finally rapped in the talent show
the first time i ever performed
it was my song that i wrote “till the curtains close” (yeah)
i’ll always remember that moment (moment)
that’s when i started to focus (focus)
i put in a whole bunch of work
and i’ll never forget that i learned a new boldness (boldness)
a couple years later, my mixtape was done
in 2013, i released it
i found out my music was touching a lot of people
and i couldn’t believe it (nah)
that’s when this music became my addiction
now listen, i’m telling you, this is that real, ain’t no fiction (nah)
just ask anybody who knows who i am as a witness (ask)
i’v wrote over 200 songs
and did a performance in three different states
arkansas, south carolina, and tennessee
lookin’ back on it, it’s really insane
this is my calling from god
this is the purpose of why i was made (yeah)
still going at it, 2007 to present
it’s already been a decade!
