what i think is so strange about puppy mills is that to try and eradicate this cruel industry is not to buy dogs but to rescue them from shelters, which is great, but then where do the puppy mill dogs go? ninety percent of dogs are from a puppy mill and our solution is to rescue the other ten percent. i’m not sure where these dogs are gonna go. our solution is to save these dogs by not rescuing them and getting other animals instead. this is a hostage situation. it’s the equivalent of trying to stop (noah, oh god) by focusing on a completely different issue in an effort but there’s not anybody to negotiate with. yeah the terrorist doesn’t have an audience to make demands with, but there’s still a f-cking hostage. and what i’ve realized is, is that the only way to k!ll a business is lack of demand or compet-tion, and i don’t think there’ll ever be a lack of demand, as i can’t see us not wanting dogs anymore. after all, they’re man’s best friend which is a weird thing to say. i’m not sure who’s put in charge of deciding something like that. personally, i would have chosen something a little bit more low maintenance, like a hamster (we all die) or some other small rodent, but that means the only other solution is compet-tion. and the only way to beat a puppy mill is to crank out more dogs at a cheaper price and a faster speed which would just a create an even more efficient puppy mill which would be kind of counter-productive. and i’m not really sure why i called this ep “the puppy mill;” i might’ve just liked how it sounded but the conclusion i’ve come to is that political and financial gain will always be not only a hot commodity but also almost irresistible to the point where we can overlook comp-ssion, morals, and human decency to create an empire of slowly k!lling off an entire species
