[the theater is dark. we hear the sound of a helicopter. a rocket launcher fires. there’s a crash
the stage lights come up on runner five, who is on the ground center stage, surrounded by the remains of a parachute. five struggles to disentangle from the cords
five picks up a headset from the ground, and puts it on.]
sam yao [spoken through the headset]:
come in…come in, this is sam yao, radio operator for abel township. if you can hear me…you’ve come down in a horde of zombies. they’ve heard the noise. they’re coming!
[seen by the audience, but not by five, a horde of zombies are stumbling onto the stage, shambling down the theater aisles, crawling past audience members to get to five.]
sam:
hey, if you can hear me
would you please say your name?
listen, if there are survivors
if anyone’s alive…
just run
[five sees the zombies, bolts up and runs. throughout the overture, five runs through the theater, pushes through audience members, climbs on top of scaffolding, and crawls through the orchestra pit to get away from the zombies
finally, five spots the radio tower of abel township, blinking red from the stage. as the overture draws to an end, five runs onstage and barely manages to barrel roll through the open gates without being bitten.]
